John was being persecuted for his witness of Jesus, and was writing to churches being persecuted.
John saw a vision of Jesus in heaven.
John describes Jesus in His glory:
- Jesus’ hair was white as snow, like wool. See Isiah 1:18 – Our sins gave been washed white as snow
- Jesus’s eyes were like flames of fire. See 1 Corinthians 3:12-14
- Jesus is going to judge our works by fire – Jesus’s feet were refined brass. See Numbers 21:6-9 – Brass is a metal of judgement. Moses made a brass serpent to rescue the Israelites from the snakes
- Jesus’s voice was booming. See John 11:43 – Jesus called Lazarus with a loud voice. – Jesus had seven stars in His right hand. See Isaiah 41:10
- Jesus upholds us with His righteous right hand. – Jesus had a sword coming out of his mouth. See Hebrews 4:12 – The living word of God Will encourage us, and correct us.
- Jesus’ countenance was bright as the sun. See Mark 9:3 – during Jesus’ transfiguration He shone brightly
- The seven starts are the pastors and the seven lamp stands are the seven churches, or church ages.
