Disobedient Disciples and a Wise Pharisee

Disobedient Disciples and a Wise Pharisee

Acts 5:17-42

This is the second time Peter and John are arrested within a few weeks.

They were put in prison to get them out of the way, but at night an angel of the Lord opened the prison doors and brought them out. If God has a job for you to do, and you are walking in it, He can do anything to overcome obstacles that would prevent you from accomplishing your job.

The witness of the apostles was simple, true, and very effective.

The blood that Jesus shed for us on the cross pays for all of our sins.

The Bible teaches us that as Christians we generally should follow the law. But where the law directly contravenes following God we are bound to obey God first, then the law as far as we are able to.

The blood that Jesus shed for us on the cross pays for all of our sins.
This amazing gift of eternal life is for everyone. We cannot selfishly keep it to ourselves – we must share it with others.

Gamaliel addressed the council with great wisdom

The apostles were rejoicing and exceedingly glad because they were being persecuted for Jesus’ sake, and promised a great reward waiting for them in Heaven.

Application:

1. Rejoice when we are persecuted for following Jesus, for great is our reward in Heaven
2. Don’t fight with God about anything in your life – it’s not worth it.
3. What place does the Blood of Jesus have in your life?
