Paul’s First Missionary Journey

Paul’s First Missionary Journey

While they were spending time with God and fasting, God specifically called for Saul and Barnabas to do a special work for Him

Acts 1:8 : “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

They set out on their journey to the Ends of the Earth by sailing to Cyprus.
John Mark accompanied them.

Whenever they arrive in a new area Barnabas and Paul go to the Jews first, and then the gentiles
The Jews still have a special place, and that while ministering to the gentiles, hopefully Paul can bring some of the Jews to Jesus.

When they arrived in Paphos they met with the proconsul, Sergius Paulus.
While Paul was sharing the Gospel, a false prophet was trying to turn the proconsul away from the truth.
Paul reprimanded the false prophet and commanded him to be blind.

This is the moment Saul changed his name to Paul.

As they made their way to Antioch John Mark left them.

Application:

  1. Don’t allow anything in your life to hover around poisoning your faith. Call them out, identify them and get rid of them.
  2. Elymas was frustrating Paul, and working against him by doing evil things. We also encounter people who frustrate our attempts to bring people to Jesus.
Have compassion on them and pray for them, and keep persevering.
  3. We need to be careful to be faithful to whatever God has called us to do. Even when we encounter oppression, disappointment or difficulty,
Don’t give up and miss your amazing opportunity like John did.
  4. What is God saying to you as you spend time with Him?
Are you spending time with Him?
It is very important for our relationship with Jesus that we frequently spend time praying, reading the Bible, talking to, and seeking God.
Don’t allow the busyness of life rob you of this most important part of your day
