Paul’s Sermon in Antioch

Paul’s Sermon in Antioch

Acts 23 17-52

Paul was invited to share a word at the end of the synagogue service

Paul is sharing the gospel to both Jews and Gentiles, starting with a foundation of Jewish history from Abraham to King David.

God promised King David that the Messiah, Jesus, would come from his descendants.

Paul then accuses the Jewish rulers of arranging His crucifixion.

But Hid raised Him from the dead, never to die again.

And that though His death and resurrection He offers forgiveness and justification in a way that the Law cannot provide.

Jesus gives us his perfection, and takes our sin. All we have to do is accept it.

That was a surprising message to hear that week. Many Jews and devout gentile believers accepted Paul’s message

The next Sabbath almost the whole city came together to hear the word of God.

The Jews were jealous, and started opposing Paul. Paul told them that because they rejected Jesus, Paul will turn to the Gentiles instead.

Paul was sharing how to be forgiven from your sins:

  1. Quotes prophecy and history to lay a foundation
  2. Explains that Jesus dies for us on the cross, in our place
  3. Explains that Jesus rose from the grave, defeating death
  4. He goes to the people who are open to hear about Jesus

This is the pattern we should follow when we witness for Jesus.

Matthew 11:28-30 Not only does Jesus invites us to Salvation, He offers to give us rest.
