Acts 14 1-20
Paul and his team preached in Iconium, and continued his practice of preaching in the synagogue to both the Jews and the Gentiles
God accompanied the preaching with signs and wonders.
Half of the city sided with the Jews, and half with the apostles.
The Jews, Gentiles and rulers planned to stone Paul and Barnabas, so they left to Lystra.
Then they arrived they found a man who had been lame since birth. Paul saw that the man had faith to be healed.
With a loud voice, in the middle of his preaching, he commanded the man to stand up. The man leaped up and walked.
The crowd thought that Barnabas and Paul were Greek gods, and started to sacrifice to them.
Paul and Barnabas stopped them, explaining that they had come to show them the truth about God, and that they need to turn from false worship.
Just then some Jews from Iconium came and convinced the crowd to stone Paul instead
The dragged him out of the city, supposing him to be dead.
Then Paul got up and left with Barnabas for Derbe the next day.
Application:
- Don’t be afraid to take big steps of faith. Paul has great faith to tell the lame man to stand up with a loud faith. Our steps of faith can have a big impact and change people’s lives.
Who knows how many lives can be changed through you taking a step of faith? - There is a reality of spiritual warfare. The devil does not like it when we do things for God, and will try to discourage you.
We don’t battle against flesh and blood, but against principalities and powers. - He that is in you is greater than he that is in the world. If you keep going, God will see you through and you will be successful. If you trust God He will see you through anything.
